Adventure Awaits: 10-Year-Old Winston-Salem Author Set to Publish Her First Book

March 26, 2025

Winston-Salem, NC — A bright new literary voice is emerging from right here in the Triad. Cora Lanz, a talented 10-year-old from Winston-Salem, is set to release her debut middle grade novel, The Adventure Girls: Dinosaurs & Eggs, on April 1, 2025, through KHB Publishing.

Cora, who both wrote and illustrated the book herself, is quickly becoming an inspiration for young readers and aspiring writers alike. The novel, which blends mystery, imagination, and prehistoric thrills, follows two sisters who find themselves unexpectedly swept into a wild and ancient world after discovering a mysterious egg. It’s the first book in what will become a full middle grade series called The Adventure Girls.

Designed for readers in grades 3–6, the book combines page-turning action with clever twists, humor, and heart. At the end of the story, readers will also find 13 bonus pages showcasing Cora’s dinosaur illustrations, along with a blank page for kids to draw their own dinosaur creation—adding an interactive twist that makes the book even more engaging.

“Cora has a natural gift for storytelling and a big creative spirit,” says Kalyn Slagle of KHB Publishing. “From the moment we met her at the Bookmarks Festival in Winston-Salem last fall, we knew she had something truly special.”

With the book set to launch this spring, Cora and KHB Publishing are currently seeking opportunities for book signings, school visits, readings, and media features to help bring The Adventure Girls to readers throughout the community.

The book will be available on Amazon in hardcover, paperback, and Kindle formats, and it can also be ordered through the Ingram catalog for bookstores, libraries, and schools.
